Academic Catalog

Advanced Placement (AP)

Overview

Cerritos College will grant degree-applicable credit for College Board Advanced Placement (AP) examinations. A passing score of 3, 4 or 5 is required in order to receive units toward the associate degree. The number of units earned through AP exams will be noted on the student’s transcript.

The table below notes the minimum units Cerritos College will award for passing scores on AP exams. It also identifies how passing scores may be applied to the Cerritos General Education Curriculum (CGEC) for local Associate of Arts (AA) and Associate of Science (AS) degrees, as well as to the California General Education Transfer Curriculum (Cal-GETC) for Associate Degrees for Transfer (AA-Ts or AS-Ts). Passing scores on AP exams that do not specify a general education area will receive elective credit.

Units granted toward a Cerritos College associate degree may differ from units granted by other community colleges or transfer institutions. Students wishing to apply AP credits towards transfer requirements should consult the receiving institution’s policy which can often be found in the receiving institution’s catalog. A Cerritos College counselor may help you with your inquiries.

AP exams that have been discontinued are not shown on this table. A student with catalog rights may be able to use the discontinued exam if accepted under the comparable area of general education for the associate degree or Cal-GETC.
