ASSOCIATE IN ARTS FOR TRANSFER (AA-T)
The Associate in Arts in Social Justice Studies: African American Studies for Transfer (AA-T) degree is designed to prepare students for seamless transfer to a CSU and toward a major in Africana Studies or those majors pertinent to race, ethnicity, and/or social justice. The first of its kind here at Cerritos College, this program offers an introduction to the theoretical principles and practices of social justice, paying particular attention to the study of the life history, culture, and social justice traditions of Black people.
This program is open to all students and may be of particular interest to those who wish to pursue advocacy work for underrepresented groups and become change agents in the hard yet necessary work of re-imagining a more equitable society.
Program Student Learning Outcomes
- Students will demonstrate a general understanding of the foundational theories and theoretical perspectives of social justice as it exists in a number of diverse disciplines.
- Students will demonstrate a general understanding of the foundational theories and theoretical perspectives that inform the broad discipline of Social Justice Studies.
- Students will critically analyze major subject areas and historical periods in the discipline of Africana Studies.
- Students will understand the historical struggle of African American people to achieve freedom, justice, and equality in the United States.
- Students will identify systems of oppression and those populations impacted by these systems.

ASSOCIATES IN ARTS FOR TRANSFER REQUIREMENTS
- Completion of 60 CSU-transferable semester units.
- Achievement of a minimum GPA of at least 2.0 in all CSU-transferable coursework. (Some majors may require a higher GPA. Students should consult with a counselor for more information.)
- Completion of the major with a grade of "C" or better in each course or a "P" if the course was taken on a Pass/No Pass basis and the "P" is equal to a "C" or better.
- Completion of the California General Education Transfer Curriculum (Cal-GETC). The CSU GE (California State University General Education-Breadth) or IGETC (Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum) pattern may be used in some cases; please see a counselor for details.
