CERTIFICATE OF ACHIEVEMENT
The Black/Africana Studies Certificate of Achievement is designed to provide students with the opportunity to study a precise scope of the history, culture, aesthetics, and social justice traditions of Black people – in and outside of the United States. Major themes highlighted in the curriculum are social justice, cultural resistance, and artistic production
The goals and objectives of this program are to provide students with the opportunity to develop cultural competence and cross-cultural skills. This program may be of particular interest to students who wish to work in multicultural environments and with underrepresented, diverse populations.
Program Student Learning Outcomes
- Demonstrate a broad understanding of the history, culture, and social justice traditions of Black people in the United States and world
- Understand critical Afrocentric perspectives on classism, racism, and other forms of oppression
- Articulate key aspects of the Black aesthetic and Black artistic production
- Recognize significant historical and emerging Black social and racial justice movements and their transformative impact on society and the world
