CERTIFICATE OF ACHIEVEMENT

The Computer Music Performance Certificate will prepare students to design and implement computer systems suitable for live electronic music performance. Students will also train on performing live with these systems and incorporate improvisation to their productions. This 17.5-unit certificate will train students how to develop computer performance rigs for a variety of environments such as solo performances, backing tracks for an ensemble, outdoor venues, and performance halls. Students will engage in creating professional audio solutions for these environments while integrating their experience with audio hardware and software systems.

Program Student Learning Outcomes

• Demonstrate basic keyboard proficiency by playing required assignments in piano and musicianship classes.
• Demonstrate knowledge of music theory by recognizing musical structures including chords, scales, and harmonic techniques appropriate to the level of study, and by analyzing music in the manner appropriate to the genre.
• Demonstrate knowledge of stylistic periods of music through listening and score recognition appropriate to the level of study.
• Demonstrate proficiency with music technology hardware by participating in required concert recording sessions in a professional manner conducive to success, including: demonstration of proficient technical skills, attendance, punctuality, professional demeanor, and equipment/materials preparedness.
• Demonstrate proficiency with music technology software by completing assigned projects each semester of enrollment in commercial music classes.
• Describe copyright, publishing, and income streams associated with the music business
• Understand and use the terminology and language of music relevant to an issue, composition, or theory.
