ASSOCIATE IN ARTS FOR TRANSFER (AA-T)

The Associate in Arts in Elementary Teacher Education for Transfer Degree is designed to prepare students for a seamless transfer into the CSU system to complete a baccalaureate degree in Elementary Teacher Education, or similar major. Upon completion of the AA-T in Elementary Education, students will be able to:

  • defend an educational position, view, or theory from more than one perspective using primary and secondary sources to understand the important arguments in the field of Education
  • develop and defend their own educational philosophy and point of view
  • demonstrate a basic understanding of pedagogical methodology relevant to each of the courses offered in the program
  • demonstrate an enhanced ability to articulate ideas about educational issues
  • identify/recognize consistencies and inconsistencies of specific educational theories or worldviews
  • use educational language relevant to an issue or theory
  • compare and contrast the core of an educational problem, issue, or question
  • develop the skills to become responsible participants of complex democratic societies

Program Student Learning Outcomes

  • Compare and contrast the core of an educational problem, issue, or question by referencing the inquiry to a system (history, topic, educational philosophy, etc.)
  • Defend an educational position, view, or theory from more than one perspective using primary and secondary  sources in Education to understand the important arguments
  • Develop and defend student’s own educational philosophy and point of view
  • Demonstrate a basic understanding of pedagogical methodology relevant to each of the courses offered in the program
  • Demonstrate an enhanced ability to articulate ideas about educational issues

ASSOCIATE IN ARTS FOR TRANSFER DEGREE REQUIREMENTS

  1. Completion of 60 CSU-transferable semester units. 
  2. Achievement of a minimum GPA of at least 2.0 in all CSU-transferable coursework. (Some majors may require a higher GPA. Students should consult with a counselor for more information.)
  3. Completion of the major with a grade of "C" or better in each course or a "P" if the course was taken on a Pass/No Pass basis and the "P" is equal to a "C" or better. 
  4. Completion of the California General Education Transfer Curriculum (Cal-GETC). The CSU GE (California State University General Education-Breadth) or IGETC (Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum) pattern may be used in some cases; please see a counselor for details.
