The Associate in Arts in Social Justice Studies: LGBTQ Studies for Transfer degree is an interdisciplinary program designed to prepare students for transfer to a CSU. This program is designed to provide students with an introduction to the theoretical principles and practices of Social Justice Studies. Additionally, students will learn the terminology utilized within the academic area of LGBTQ studies, and explore the concepts of sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression. The degree program also promotes understanding of the intersections of LGBTQ+ identities with those of race, ethnicity, class, gender, and age, among others. Students will also learn about LGBTQ+ individuals, their contributions to U.S. and international cultures, both historical and current, and their struggles and achievements toward equal rights. This program is designed to prepare students for seamless transfer to a CSU and toward a major in LGBTQ Studies, Women’s and Gender Studies, or those majors pertinent to social justice studies.
Program Student Learning Outcomes
- Identify important historical and cultural LGBTQ+ representations in various academic areas, such as history, literature, film, and other media.
- Define and articulate the various terms associated with sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the obstacles, struggles and achievements of LGBTQ+ individuals and groups throughout history.
- Identify the social and political movements toward equality for women and LGBTQ+ people in America and internationally.
- Demonstrate an understanding of advocacy for underrepresented people, especially individuals who are gender and sexual minorities.

ASSOCIATE IN ARTS FOR TRANSFER DEGREE REQUIREMENTS
- Completion of 60 semester units or 90 quarter units of degree-applicable courses,
- Minimum overall grade point average of 2.0,
- Minimum grade of “C” (or “P”) for each course in the major, and
- Completion of IGETC and/or CSU GE-Breadth.
