Nutrition and Dietetics (AS-T)

ASSOCIATE IN SCIENCE FOR TRANSFER (AS-T) 

The Nutrition and Dietetics Degree will prepare students interested in careers as a nutritionist, food scientist, Registered Dietitian (RD) or other food and nutrition related fields for transfer. Students will apply the scientific principles of nutrition in practical and personal applications, learning how food affects the human body, overall health, and the society we live in.  This degree is designed for Seamless transfer to the CSU.

Program Learning Outcomes

  • Explain the process of ingestion, mechanical digestion, chemical digestion, absorption, reabsorption, and defecation and what impacts the bodies utilization of food.
  • Demonstrate various food preparation techniques and the ability to develop balanced and healthy meals.
  • Evaluate the role of diet in disease prevention and health
  • Use Nutritional Science to develop nutrient and energy requirements for the optimal health of diverse populations.

ASSOCIATE IN SCIENCE FOR TRANSFER DEGREE REQUIREMENTS

1.  Completion of 60 CSU-transferable semester units. 
2.  Achievement of a minimum GPA of at least 2.0 in all CSU-transferable coursework. (Some majors may require a higher GPA. Students should consult with a counselor for more information.)
3.  Completion of the major with a grade of "C" or better in each course or a "P" if the course was taken on a Pass/No Pass basis and the "P" is equal to a "C" or better. 
4.  Completion of the California General Education Transfer Curriculum (Cal-GETC). The CSU GE (California State University General Education-Breadth) or IGETC (Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum) pattern may be used in some cases; please see a counselor for details.
