ASSOCIATE IN SCIENCE FOR TRANSFER (AS-T)

Upon successful completion of Cerritos College’s Associate in Science in Physics for Transfer degree, students will demonstrate breadth and depth of understanding of physics. The degree is intended for students who are interested in the field of physics and are planning on transferring to a CSU and majoring in physics, astronomy, or one of many engineering specialties.

Physics graduates with their bachelor’s degrees qualify for graduate studies in physics, engineering, medical physics, geophysics, and astronomy. Physicists find rewarding careers in teaching, medicine, and industrial and governmental scientific endeavors

Program Student Learning Outcomes

  • Demonstrate understanding of units and dimensions in physics problems
  • Demonstrate the use of mathematical and problem solving techniques to solve physics problems
  • Demonstrate the ability to analyze a problem or experimental data in terms of related physical concepts
  • Demonstrate the ability to obtain real-world experimental data and present it in a correct format, including significant figures and units.
  • Demonstrate the ability to solve physical non-analytic problems using numerical methods.

ASSOCIATE IN SCIENCE FOR TRANSFER DEGREE REQUIREMENTS

1.  Completion of 60 CSU-transferable semester units.
2.  Achievement of a minimum GPA of at least 2.0 in all CSU-transferable coursework. (Some majors may require a higher GPA. Students should consult with a counselor for more information.)
3.  Completion of the major with a grade of "C" or better in each course or a "P" if the course was taken on a Pass/No Pass basis and the "P" is equal to a "C" or better.
4.  Completion of the California General Education Transfer Curriculum (Cal-GETC). The CSU GE (California State University General Education-Breadth) or IGETC (Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum) pattern may be used in some cases; please see a counselor for details.
