CERTIFICATE OF ACHIEVEMENT
The Cerritos College Visual & Cultural Studies Certificate of Achievement in Race and Ethnicity is a unique interdisciplinary certificate using the analysis of visual and cultural objects and texts to expose students to diverse cultural perspectives and to develop the kind of cultural sensitivities that are valuable in all vocations and careers today.
Program Student Learning Outcomes
- Demonstrate an understanding of the historical, political, social, economic, and cultural movements and influences on the representation of race and ethnicity
- Explain the various cultural and postcolonial theories related to race and ethnicity
- Analyze and evaluate the ways in which racial and ethnic identities are shaped by socialization, institutions, and communications media
- Compose critical analyses on specific texts that question issues of race and ethnicity
- Evaluate how cultural identity intersects with race, ethnicity, social class, ability, and sexual orientation
- Analyze counternarratives and various forms of resistance to Western texts
