Social Justice Studies: Chicano Studies (AA-T)
ASSOCIATE IN ARTS FOR TRANSFER (AA-T)
The Associate in Arts in Social Justice Studies-Chicana/o Studies for Transfer (AA-T) Degree is intended to meet the lower division requirements for Chicano Studies majors (or similar majors) at a CSU campus that offers a baccalaureate degree in a relevant or similar major.
This program is designed to prepare students for seamless transfer to a CSU to pursue degrees and programs related to race and ethnicity.
Upon completion of this program, students will possess foundational understanding in the field of Social Justice Studies-Chicana/o Studies and an awareness of the major theories and concepts that give voice to the lived experiences of Mexican American, Chicana(o), and Latinx communities.
The AA-T in Social Justice Studies-Chicana/o Studies program introduces students to the broader field of Social Justice Studies, providing a theoretical framework for the study of race, ethnicity, gender, and identity through an intersectional lens while also providing students with the opportunity to examine, analyze and contextualize, historical, social, and political contexts and events that have shaped the experiences of Mexican American, Chicana(o), and Latinx communities.
Upon completion of this program, students will possess foundational understanding in the field of Social Justice Studies-Chicana/o Studies and an awareness of the major theories and concepts that give voice to the lived experiences of Mexican American, Chicana(o), and Latinx communities.
Program Student Learning Outcomes
- Identify and analyze the ways injustices are institutionalized in social, political, and economic structures.
- Recognize and connect the ways individuals and institutions may be beneficiaries and/or victims of social injustice.
- Identify and practice the methods people use to fight for social justice at local, national, and international levels.
- Demonstrate an awareness of the major theories and concepts that help explain the life experiences of the Chicana/o.
- Evaluate the Chicana/o experience as part of the local and global community.

ASSOCIATE IN ARTS FOR TRANSFER DEGREE REQUIREMENTS
1. Completion of 60 CSU-transferable semester units.
2. Achievement of a minimum GPA of at least 2.0 in all CSU-transferable coursework. (Some majors may require a higher GPA. Students should consult with a counselor for more information.)
3. Completion of the major with a grade of "C" or better in each course or a "P" if the course was taken on a Pass/No Pass basis and the "P" is equal to a "C" or better.
4. Completion of the California General Education Transfer Curriculum (Cal-GETC). The CSU GE (California State University General Education-Breadth) or IGETC (Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum) pattern may be used in some cases; please see a counselor for details.
