ASSOCIATE OF ART

The Graphic Design Program at Cerritos College is designed to prepare students for entry-level positions in graphic design related fields such as advertising, graphic design, illustration, digital imaging and motion graphics. The core learned disciplines are the principles of design, an understanding of the visual elements, exposure to art and design history, conceptual visual problem solving, and the production of a portfolio using industry-standard software and processes.

Program Student Learning Outcomes

  • Students apply the principles of teamwork, professional practices and professional ethics in the design profession.
  • Students create and present a portfolio of work for entry into the workplace including logo design, web design, packaging design and publication design.
  • Students develop visual form in response to communication problems, including principles of visual composition, information hierarchy, symbolic representation, typography, color theory, and the construction of meaningful images.
  • Students utilize current technology for creation, reproduction, and distribution of visual messages. Relevant tools and technologies include drawing, offset printing, photography, and time-based and interactive media.
