Photography (A.A.)

The mission of the photography program is to educate students in photography by providing a balanced education in both the creative and technical aspects of the photographic medium, the history of photography and the critical analysis of photographs. The mission is accomplished through course offerings that enable students to develop their technical skills, creativity and understanding of the social and historical role and relevance of the photographic medium.

Program Student Learning Outcomes

  • Students analyze and control compositional features as well as varying qualities and quantities of artificial and natural light through digital capture and film exposure in a variety of formats.
  • Students assess, discuss, and critique photographic works.
  • Students combine presentation and communication techniques to create and/or promote their work.
  • Students distinguish between various photographic discourses.
  • Students edit and sequence a coherent portfolio of photographic images.
  • Students explain major historical and contemporary movements in photography.
  • Students utilize Photoshop techniques and both archival digital inkjet color printing, as well astraditional black and white darkroom processes

ASSOCIATE OF ARTS DEGREE REQUIREMENTS

A minimum of 60 units to include:

  1. the above course requirements,
  2. the Gneral Education requirements, and
  3. electives as needed.

Note: Each student is required to have access to, for the purposes of course work, a manually operable 35mm film camera, DSLR or mirrorless camera. Laboratory fees are also required. Refer to the class schedule for specific course fees.
