Certified Wellness Coach
CERTIFICATE OF ACHIEVEMENT
This program will train students on the core competencies to become a certified wellness coach in the behavioral health workforce, including wellness promotion and education, supporting youth completing behavioral health screening, care coordination, individualized and group support, and crisis management. Certified Wellness Coaches focus on the mental health and well-being of children and youth, supporting them with a range of preventive, non-clinical services. Students will also learn cultural responsiveness, humility, mitigating implicit bias, professionalism and communication, ethics, legal mandates, and awareness of operating in different roles and environments. Successful completion of this certificate, along with 150 hours of field experience working with children and youth through 25 years old, will allow students to apply to become a certified wellness coach within the state of California. In addition, the coursework will also prepare them for transfer to obtain a bachelor's degree in human services, social work, and/or psychology.
Program Student Learning Outcomes
- Students will apply cultural responsiveness, humility, and mitigating implicit bias in care coordination.
- Students will learn behavioral workforce fundamentals including professionalism, ethics, and legal mandates.
- Students will learn how to effectively communicate with clients, service providers, and the larger community.
- Students will learn to successfully operate in diverse roles and environments.
