Woodworking Manufacturing Technologies: Furniture Design
Associate of Science
The Furniture Design program option prepares students for careers in custom furniture design and fabrication, studio furniture making, and small-scale production. Students learn principles of furniture design, ergonomics, and the creative process, integrating conceptual development with advanced craftsmanship. Coursework emphasizes design ideation, drawing, and model making; veneering and marquetry; and construction of original pieces using both traditional and contemporary methods. Graduates are prepared for employment in custom design/build studios, small-scale manufacturing, and related design industries, or for transfer to advanced design programs.
Program Student Learning Outcomes
- Demonstrate proficiency in advanced woodworking, joinery, and finishing techniques appropriate for small-scale production and studio practice.
- Produce a professional-quality portfolio that communicates design intent through presentation drawings, models, and finished projects.
